HAWORTH KITCHEN
This beautiful shaker kitchen was handcrafted in our Ferrara collection - our classic kitchen design with simple, uncluttered cabinetry. The cabinetry was painted in 'Pluto 020' a timeless grey colour with blue undertones creating a sophisticated kitchen design; especially when paired with satin brass handles. The kitchen island features Sensa 'Moack' granite and the perimeter cabinetry features a 'Carrara Quartz' worktop.
The Haworth Kitchen was lovingly handcrafted for a stunning period property nestled in the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside. This remarkable home, originally constructed in the Stuart period around 1660, exudes historic charm with its expansive, airy rooms, richly colored wall paneling, and intricate detailing that speaks to its grand past. Over the centuries, the property was further enhanced with a spacious extension, seamlessly blending the old with the new, and providing ample space for future generations to enjoy.
When our clients embarked on the journey of renovating this historic gem, they were determined to restore it to its former glory while adding modern touches that would enhance its beauty and functionality. We were honored to be part of this transformative process, crafting a kitchen that would become the heart of the home and a true reflection of the property's unique character.
Initially, the kitchen was being designed for a room within the extension, featuring smooth, flat walls that would provide a clean canvas for our bespoke cabinetry. However, as the renovation progressed, the project took an unexpected turn when this room was suddenly flooded. Understandably, our clients were devastated by the setback, as the flood not only caused significant damage but also required extensive repairs. The dry wall had weakened and had to be removed, but in doing so, something extraordinary was uncovered—a stunning original stone wall and a set of unique windows that had been hidden away for years.
Upon discovering this hidden treasure, our design team rushed to the site to reassess the space and reimagine the kitchen layout. It was clear that these newly revealed features had to be celebrated and incorporated into the design, transforming the kitchen into a truly one-of-a-kind space. The original plan was reworked to ensure the stone wall and windows became focal points of the room, adding warmth, texture, and character that perfectly complemented the period property.
At the center of the new kitchen design is a magnificent kitchen island, handcrafted from luxurious walnut wood. This centerpiece boasts several walnut drawer boxes, walnut cutlery inserts, and a sleek black granite worktop, creating a harmonious blend of style and functionality.
One of the standout features of the kitchen is the bespoke countertop cupboard, which has been thoughtfully designed to serve as the perfect coffee station. By integrating the coffee machine into oak shelving, we were able to create an efficient workspace that keeps the countertop clear, allowing our clients to effortlessly prepare their favorite beverages in a dedicated, organised area.
The kitchen's unique layout presented a challenge in one corner, where the stone wall met the smooth plastered surface of the adjoining wall at an unusual angle. To make the most of this space, we designed custom cabinetry that fits the corner perfectly, ensuring no inch of space was wasted. The result is a clever and functional solution that includes an extra cupboard, an integrated microwave, and a cubby hole for storing a toaster or other small appliances.
The run of shaker cabinetry along the far wall is another highlight of the kitchen, seamlessly integrating modern conveniences while maintaining the traditional aesthetic of the home. This cabinetry includes an integrated fridge, an integrated freezer, and a tall double-doored larder with ample oak shelving, several drawer boxes, and two oak spice racks. Additionally, our clients had a specific request for a dedicated space to store their baking trays. To accommodate this, we crafted a bespoke shaker cupboard next to their cooker, featuring several oak dividers that keep the trays neatly organized and easily accessible.
In every detail, from the careful selection of materials to the thoughtful design solutions, the Haworth Kitchen embodies the perfect blend of historic charm and modern convenience. It is a space that not only honours the rich history of the property but also meets the needs of contemporary living, creating a kitchen that our clients will cherish for years to come.
