Meet the Kitchen - Ferrara Edition

The Ferrara collection - our traditional shaker kitchen design. The shaker style has been around since the 18th century and is instantly recognisable with its crisp uncluttered lines; initially the design intention was for it to be easy to maintain. Our Ferrara collection may be simple, but there is a lot more to it than meets the eye especially when you look inside the cabinets. By integrating appliances we can hide modern technology behind this iconic design.

Ferrara is one of our most popular collections; everyone loves a bit of shaker, but it is possibly the sophistication of the style that makes Ferrara one of the most loved - it has a discreet chicness to it which oozes finesse.

The below project was completed earlier this year and it was incredible to handcraft and install, not only because it was within an elegant, vintage property, but the actual space was generous and the natural light that flooded in the front windows made the whole set-up pop! The contrast of the dark cabinetry nestled with the light painted space, and worktop, really showcased a perfect synergy.

The island that was created gave the whole kitchen the potential for entertaining, needless to say it also provided a whole raft of storage and a large working space for chopping, cutting, slicing, eating and/or socialising.

Large kitchen with mainly black, shaker style, bespoke handcrafted cabinetry - part of the Ferrara collection. The main part of the image is a kitchen island, which has an overhanging worktop and four stools underneath. There are three hanging lights, a large bay window and a conventional double oven. Kitchen equipment is on shelves in the background.

Here is a little close up on the island - the benefits of having an island can't be overstated. Of course, you do need space/a fairly good sized kitchen to have one, but for what they bring to the kitchen, the storage they provide and the additional worktop space, there isn't a downside. This particular island was created with both the practicalities of storage in mind and with the requirement to have room for multiple kitchen visitors to enjoy the making and baking!

A little Ferrara fact - Ferrara, in Italy, is home to the Diamanti Palace which houses the National Picture Gallery; our collection lives up to its namesake and looks perfectly picturesque in amazing spaces.

We don't very often talk about drawers, let alone almost get inside one with the cutlery, but I just wanted to show you how your Minerva drawers could look and how flawless they would be. Our drawers are made with dovetail joints which are an interlocking design and allows the joint to distribute the weight and pressure evenly, making it perfectly suitable for fairly heavy cutlery and frequent use on a daily basis. There is also the aesthetic appeal of a dovetail joint, not only are they robust, but they also look pleasing and reflect our very high commitment to quality craftsmanship.

This final shot is taken from the same project and brilliantly shows how your sink, tap, worktop and cabinetry could look. Also shown are two bespoke, handcrafted shelves that were created specifically for this space. Not only do they provide storage, but they can also be perfect for precious ornaments and other items that you want to display or have on hand for creating special dishes (I'm picking on the pestle and mortar there!)
